PM Modi visits Adampur airbase, lauds armed forces after precision strikes in ‘Operation Sindoor’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited the Adampur Airbase in Jalandhar, Punjab, to interact with Indian Air Force personnel and acknowledge their role in the recently concluded Operation Sindoor — a bold and precise anti-terror strike that targeted key terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

PM Modi’s visit came shortly after hostilities between India and Pakistan ceased. During his interaction at the airbase, he was also briefed by Air Force officials on the operational preparedness and execution of the mission.

The Adampur base was one of the key operational sites during Operation Sindoor and had also faced retaliatory attempts by Pakistan, which were effectively neutralised by India’s air defence systems.

In a post on X, PM Modi shared:

“Earlier this morning, I went to AFS Adampur and met our brave air warriors and soldiers. It was a very special experience to be with those who epitomise courage, determination and fearlessness. India is eternally grateful to our armed forces for everything they do for our nation.”

Speaking about the mission’s intent, Director General Air Operations, Air Marshal AK Bharti, said on Monday that Operation Sindoor was specifically aimed at terror infrastructure, not against the Pakistan military or its civilians.

“Our fight is with the terrorists, our fight is not with the Pakistan Military or Pakistan civilians. We are very clear in our targeting,” he said during a press briefing.

He emphasised the precision and effectiveness of the strikes, adding that India’s air defence systems and trained operators showcased indigenous capability and preparedness.
“No matter what kind of technology emerges, we are prepared to counter it. You have seen with your own eyes the consequences we have delivered,” he said.

In his national address, PM Modi said the armed forces had been given full freedom to eliminate terror threats. Referring emotionally to the attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22 — where 26 tourists lost their lives — the Prime Minister said:

“Every terror organisation now knows ki hamari behano, betiyon ke maathe se Sindoor hatane ka anjaam kya hota hai.”

He described Operation Sindoor as the latest chapter in India’s evolving counter-terrorism doctrine, after previous surgical and air strikes.

“Operation Sindoor has carved out a new benchmark in our fight against terrorism and has set up a new parameter and new normal,” he said.

Outlining India’s strategic doctrine, PM Modi asserted:

A terrorist attack on India will receive a fitting reply, at a time and place of India’s choosing.

India will not tolerate nuclear blackmail.

Strikes will be precise and decisive, with zero tolerance for any entity sponsoring terror.

Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, was a direct retaliation for the deadly Pahalgam attack. The multi-domain operation — spanning air, land, and sea — targeted 11 air bases and eliminated over 100 terrorists, significantly degrading Pakistan’s terror infrastructure. Despite the scale, the operation was carried out with calibrated restraint to minimise civilian casualties.

India’s tri-services coordinated seamlessly to ensure both strategic impact and international compliance, reaffirming India’s capability to act with resolve, precision, and responsibility.
