88 infants, 8 maternal deaths reported in 2024-25 in West Godavari, probe initiated

During a district-level meeting on the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR), District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani revealed that 88 infant mortalities and eight maternal mortalities were recorded across the West Godavari district for the year 2024-25.

Ms. Nagarani has ordered health officials to initiate a probe into the causes behind the significant increase in the number of infant and maternal mortalities across the West Godavari district.

Medical and Health Officer Dr. G. Geethabhai has been instructed to issue notices to government and private clinics where these mortalities have been reported since March.

Attending the meeting were Integrated Child Development Services Project Director B. Sujatha Rani, District Hospital Services Coordinator Dr. M. Suryanarayana, and other officials.
