Minister for MSME Kondapalli Srinivas on Monday said that Matyakara Bhorasa scheme benefited 3,796 fishermen families of Bhogapuram and Pusapatirega mandals of the district. Along with Collector B.R. Ambedkar, he handed over cheques to a few families at a programme organised in the Vizianagaram Collector’s office. The Minister said that the previous government had given only ₹10,000 financial assistance but it was enhanced to ₹20,000 to help the fishermen families during fishing holiday period. He said that ₹10 lakh ex gratia was being paid to the families of deceased fishermen apart from other support from the government. Nellimarla MLA Lokam Madhavi was among those present.
