Pahalgam Terror Attack Afternath: With Rs 85,000-crore defence deals signed in FY25, India stands combat-ready amid rising tensions

In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, national security concerns have surged across the country. At such a critical juncture, the Indian Army has once again demonstrated its readiness to tackle any situation head on. Exclusive information accessed by Zee Business reveals that the Indian Army has signed defence procurement contracts worth Rs 85,000 crore during the financial year 2024-25.

In total, the Army signed 26 major contracts this year, out of which, 23 have been signed with domestic companies. This showcases the Army’s strong commitment to the Narendra Modi government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. Significantly, 95 per cent of the total capital expenditure has been awarded to domestic companies, reinforcing the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India).

Compared to 2023-24, the Army’s capital expenditure has witnessed a massive jump of 152 per cent, reflecting an aggressive push to modernise and upgrade its operational capabilities.

Key weapons and systems procured

Among the major weapons and systems contracted in 2024-25 are the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS), helicopters, cutting-edge radar systems, and the K9 Vajra-T howitzers. These acquisitions are set to significantly enhance the Army’s firepower and surveillance capabilities.

Partnerships with major Indian defence players

The Army has collaborated with leading Indian defence companies such as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Bharat Forge, and L&T Defence, among others. Several other domestic defence manufacturers have also secured important contracts under this drive.

The Indian Army stands fully equipped to tackle any adverse situation arising out of the Pahalgam terror attack, further reinforcing the nation’s growing confidence in its defensive and offensive capabilities.
