Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the four-day World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai on May 1, Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant announced on Monday (April 28, 2025). The summit aims to convene stakeholders from the media and entertainment industry.

Mr. Samant stated that Maharashtra, particularly Mumbai, competes at the national level with foreign destinations in the tourism sector. Highlighting Mumbai’s prominence in entertainment, culture, and industry, Mr. Samant, a Shiv Sena leader said, “The summit aims to showcase the tourist destinations at the global level and one of the reasons that the central government chose Mumbai city.”

Hosted by the Maharashtra government, the summit is scheduled from May 1 to May 4 at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai. Ministerial-level officials from 33 countries and CEOs of 120 international companies are expected to attend. Veteran artists and producers from the Hindi, South Indian, and Marathi film industries are also slated to participate.

Other dignitaries expected include Union Minister for External Affairs S. Jaishankar, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. Mr. Jaishankar is expected to chair a Global Media Dialogue session, involving visiting ministers, media industry leaders, and policymakers.

The four-day event will feature seminars, roundtable discussions, and cultural programmes related to the media and entertainment sector. Panel discussions, including one titled ‘Legends and Legacies: The Stories That Shaped India’s Soul’, and other theme-based plenary sessions will focus on the future of the audio-visual industry in India and beyond.

A concert by music composer A.R. Rahman is scheduled for the third day at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

“This program is an opportunity to take Maharashtra’s cultural, industrial and tourism sectors to the global level. The state government expects everyone’s cooperation for this event,” Mr. Samant added.
