VIT Founder-Chancellor G. Viswanathan on Wednesday inaugurated an upgraded clinic of Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre in Katpadi.
V. Mohan, Chairman, Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre, was present on the occasion.
The new clinic offers precision diabetes care services, powered by cutting-edge technology. The advanced diabetes diagnostics and treatment it offers would benefit patients in nearby districts, providing them access to world-class care beyond urban limits, a release said.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Viswanathan highlighted the need for early intervention and dedicated care models for youth affected by diabetes. “Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre has set a remarkable example by maintaining consistent, high-quality care across its centres in seven States. Health and education are the two pillars of a progressive society…,” he said.
Hailing Dr. Mohan for his contribution to healthcare, especially in the field of diabetes, he said that the VIT would support a diabetes prevention program in Vellore.
Mr. Viswanathan further said that diabetes, once considered a disease of affluence, now affected people across segments of society – largely due to changing food habits and lifestyle choices. There is a clear gap between awareness and action. Dr. Mohan should set up a preventive care program that focuses on education and awareness on diabetes, he added.
In his address, Dr. Mohan said that the rising prevalence of diabetes across Tamil Nadu, especially in urban and semi-urban belts, had made specialised, community-focused care more essential than ever. “With this new facility, we are better equipped to deliver clinical excellence, innovative therapies, and compassionate care – all under one roof,” he added.
The new facility in Katpadi offers a wide range of services, including advanced diabetes consultations, full-service laboratory investigations with digital reporting, retina and foot screenings for complications, personalised diet and lifestyle counselling, structured diabetes education sessions, an in-house pharmacy with diabetes-specific health products, support for advanced diabetes technologies like continuous glucose monitoring and insulin pump therapy, and offers Precision Diabetes Care, the release added.
