Chhattisgarh State Finance Commission Chairman Maddi Srinivasa Rao welcomed the Narendra Modi-led government’s decision to take up caste census across India. He said: “The move will greatly benefit the downtrodden sections of society, especially those who have been seeking increased reservations in accordance with their population.”

Mr. Srinivasa Rao, a native of Srikakulam district, was felicitated by BJP Srikakulam District former President Birlangi Umamaheswara Rao and Srikakulam District OBC wing President Golivi Karunakar.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said: “The caste census decision is ‘historic’ and proves that the BJP is always striving to uplift the Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, and Tribes. The caste census will especially benefit Srikakulam district, where over 90 percent of the population belongs to BC, SC, and ST communities.” He praised Mr. Srinivasa Rao’s elevation in Chhattisgarh and said: “It proves that the BJP is dedicated to empowering backward communities to achieve top positions in their lives.”

Mr. Karunakar added that the people have waited a long time for the caste census. The last caste census was conducted in 1931 during the British regime.
