Sri Sathya Sai district has stepped up visible policing and intensified night patrols.
Speaking to media here on Friday (May 2), Superintendent of Police V. Ratna said vehicle checks were intensified across the district during the past fortnight. “The police are educating motorists on road safety, stressing the importance of wearing helmets and seat belt. Drunk driving, using mobile phones while driving and overloading passengers in autorikshaws will not be tolerated,” the SP said.
Ms. Ratna said night patrols were increased to improve law and order. “Special teams have been formed to conduct regular inspections at religious places, ATMs, banks, educational and business establishments in the district,” she said.
Meanwhile, Deputy SP (Kadiri) Shivanna Rayana Swamy launched a special drive in the sub-division, focusing on night-time patrol and vehicle checks. A “Face Wash and Go” drive was conducted along highways, sensitising the drivers to refresh themselves often to reduce chances of accidents.
Surveillance was intensified on individuals with criminal history. The SP instructed the police officials at the mandal level to regularly hold counselling sessions for such individuals in their jurisdictions.
