Two persons were arrested by Ariyur police on Friday for killing of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) functionary at Avarampalayam village in Vellore a few days ago.
Police said the arrested persons were identified as S. Davidraj (30) and B. Siva (50). They were residents in Vellore. Initial inquiry revealed that victim K. Sarathkumar, who headed the labour wing of VCK in Avarampalayam village, had left his house in anger after his family refused to give money to him to consume liquor on Tuesday night.
He met his friend Davidraj in a Tasmac outlet near Ariyur police station and demanded money to buy liquor. As Davidraj refused to give money, Sarathkumar hit him and fled the outlet. Injured Davidraj told the incident to his family friend Siva. Subsequently, the duo went in search of Sarathkumar and found him in the village.
They argued with the VCK functionary. As Sarathkumar threatened them with dire consequences, the duo hit him with wooden logs and fled the spot. A few motorists saw Sarathkumar in a pool of blood. They informed Ariyur police, who rushed to the spot and shifted him to Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore. A case was registered. Arrested persons were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is underway.
