Two boys drowned in a lake at Suraikulam village near Arcot town in Tiruvannamalai on Friday.
Police said the deceased has been identified as N. Nithish (6) and his relative T. Veeravel (8). Nitish was the son of the couple K. Nithiyanatham and N. Devi, farmers, while Veeravel was son of Nithiyanatham’s brother, K. Sakthi.
Initial inquiry revealed that Nithish had gone to his relative’s house near Arcot town for summer vacation. As the couple was busy with household work when their son Veeravel and Nithish went to a nearby lake along with two other friends. They were watching fish in the lake from the bund. As their curiosity increased, the boys went deeper into the lake where they were dragged by increased water level.
Immediately, two other friends raised the alarm. Residents and passerby rushed to the lake. They also alerted Banavaram police, who along with firefighters, retrieved the bodies from the lake. A case was registered. A probe is under way.
