Kaanappadavukal, a photography exhibition celebrating the biodiversity and agricultural heritage of Kerala’s kole fields, being held at the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Art Gallery, is attracting crowds.
Organised by the Kole Birders Collective, the exhibition showcases over 240 photographs taken by around 100 birdwatchers, offering visitors a vivid insight into the unique ecosystem of the kole wetlands. The initiative aims to raise awareness, particularly among children and young adults, about the ecological significance of these landscapes.
Inaugurating the exhibition, Collector Arjun Pandiyan lauded the efforts of the organisers and assured full support for similar environmental awareness campaigns. Mini Anto, representing the collective, highlighted the importance of connecting the younger generation with nature through visual storytelling. She emphasised that the exhibition is a step towards sensitising the public to the fragile biodiversity of the region.
Variety of subjects
The photographs on display capture a wide variety of subjects — from rare migratory birds and wetland fauna to agricultural practices and landscape features.
A children’s art session will be held on May 4, encouraging young visitors to express their impressions of nature through drawing and painting.
