AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday said Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is “frustrated” following the AIADMK’s alliance with the BJP to contest the 2026 State Assembly election.
Speaking at a meeting organised by the party in Chennai condemning the ruling DMK, he said the Chief Minister had questioned the AIADMK’s decision to join hands with the BJP. “This is our party. We are forming a strong alliance with like-minded parties to strengthen our position against the ruling DMK. Mr. Stalin was under the impression that the AIADMK would not align with the BJP. But now that we are together, he is frustrated and showing signs of election fever. Over the next year, more like-minded parties will join our alliance,” he said.
“The DMK has no principles or ideology. It only seeks power. In 1999, it allied with the BJP and enjoyed power at the Centre. But after five years, it withdrew from the BJP-led alliance and joined hands with the Congress in 2004, only for power,” Mr. Palaniswami said.
“It has been four years since the DMK assumed power in the State. In these four years, the ruling DMK has failed to deliver any significant schemes for the people of Tamil Nadu. What initiatives have been introduced for the poor and marginalised sections? They only claim to have accomplished so much. The only accomplishment of Mr. Stalin’s government was making his son Udhayanidhi Stalin the Deputy Chief Minister. The DMK only focused on dynastic and family politics,” he said.
“The law and order situation in the State has been deteriorating day-by-day under the DMK government. Incidents of murder have become common in the State…After coming to power, the DMK raised electricity tariff, property tax, and registration fee, increasing the burden on the people of Tamil Nadu. The people are eagerly waiting for the day this government will be unseated,” Mr. Palaniswami added.
