NLC land acquisition issue figured in meeting held by Union Coal Secretary with CS to strengthen energy security in Tamil Nadu


Union Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt chaired a high-level meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam at Chennai on Friday (May 2, 2025) and held discussions on the State’s coal requirement for the power sector during the summer and monsoon seasons.

According to an official press note from NLC India Ltd. (NLCIL), the deliberations focussed on the State’s projected power demand, availability of lignite and coal, and proactive measures required to meet peak load conditions during the summer and monsoon seasons.

The issues of NLC India (NLCIL) related land acquisition, facilitation required for promoting of Overburden to M-Sand in Neyveli mines, land acquisition of lignite mines, starting operations of Neyveli airport and formation of Joint Venture between Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited and NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL) were also discussed.

The proactive and progressive approach taken by the State during the meeting is expected to significantly mitigate supply-side challenges and ensure reliable, affordable, and sustainable power for Tamil Nadu and resolve the issues of NLCIL.

Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NLCIL, Sanjeev Kumar Kassi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Mukesh Choudhary, Director (Marketing) Coal India Limited and Alby John Varghese, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Limited had participated in the meeting.
