Missing in river: body of one student recovered, search continues for second student

A day after two students went missing in the Meenachil River, the body of one of them was recovered on Sunday evening.

Authorities confirmed that the body of Albin Joseph, a native of Mundakkayam, was found near the Ambalakkadavu ghat close to Bharananganam. Although rescue teams had searched this area, which is just 200 metres from the spot where the students went missing, efforts had failed to locate the body.

Meanwhile, the search for the second student, Amal K. Joseph, continued throughout the day, though to no avail.

The two students, who were attending German language training at a private institute in Bharananganam, had gone to bathe in the river at a ghat near the Vilangupara bridge on Saturday. They were reportedly caught in strong currents while in the water.
