A huge pipeline from the Nemmeli desalination plant that got lodged on the shore four days ago, obstructing fishermen’s access to the sea, was finally removed on Saturday.
Fishing community leader M.D. Dayalan said the nearly 1-km-long pipeline was pushed towards the shore by strong currents and wave action. He added that efforts should be taken to anchor the pipe properly and due to such incidents, fishermen have always opposed projects on the beach front.
Desingu, ward councillor, said five ships towed the pipeline back to the sea on Saturday night.
