PJTAU to allot 15% seats to children farm workers

HYDERABAD

Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU) has decided to allot 15% of seats in the courses offered by it to the children of farm workers from the 2025-26 academic year in addition to the existing provision of allotment of 40% seats to the children of farmers.

This was announced by Vice Chancellor of the university Aldas Janaiah here on Saturday. He asked the teaching community at all level to spread the decision by creating awareness among parents.

Prof. Janaiah said they were also launching the ‘rythu mungitlo shastravettalu’ (scientists in the farmers’ threshold) programme from May 5 with 200 teams of agriculture and allied scientists visiting about 1,200 villages till June 13. South Telangana would be covered by 100 teams, while the Central and North Telangana areas would be covered by 50 teams each.

They would educate farmers on reducing the use of urea, using chemicals — both fertilizers and pesticides — only in the prescribed quantities to protect the soil health, proper management of water for irrigation, crop changing patterns, growing trees, environment protection and others.
