Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 238 for drunk driving during a special weekend enforcement drive. Chevella Traffic Police Station recorded the highest number of cases with 27, followed by Miyapur 24, Balanagar 20, and Shamshabad 18, while Madhapur reported the lowest with seven cases.
Two-wheelers accounted for majority of violations with 187 cases. There were 45 cases involving four-wheelers, four three-wheelers, and two heavy vehicles.
Most of the offenders were aged between 21 and 40, while 83 were in the 31 to 40 age group 78 were in the 21 to 30. No underage offender was booked and only one person above 61 was booked.
Regarding blood alcohol concentration (BAC), 101 offenders had levels between 51 and 100 mg/100 ml, 52 were in the 101 to 150 range, 23 between 151 and 200, 13 between 201 and 300, and five were found with levels above 300 mg/100 ml.
The police said that all those booked will be produced before the court and issued a warning that anyone causing a fatal accident while driving under the influence will face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The offence carries a maximum punishment of ten years imprisonment and a fine.
