Bengaluru Weather Update: IMD issues yellow alert till May 22; several districts on high alert, here’s 7-day update


The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in Karnataka till Thursday (May 22). Several districts, including Bengaluru, have been put on high alert.

According to the weather office, coastal and south interior Karnataka are expected to see extremely heavy rainfall today, May 19. It further stated that between 3 PM to 1 AM tonight, the weather is “very favorable for massive thunderstorms over parts of Karnataka,” including Bengaluru.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has also forecasted continued rainfall of around 100mm across Bengaluru on May 19.

Districts on high alert

The affected districts include Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Tumakuru, Mandya, Mysuru, Hassan, Kodagu, Belagavi, Bidar, Raichur, Yadgir, Davanagere, and Chitradurga. 

According to an official post by IMD, “Very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Coastal and Malnad districts from May 20 to 22. And Orange Alert has been issued by IMD.”
