Tuhin Kanta Pandey, chairman of the Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) at 16th Assocham 16th Capital Market Conference, said, “For an economy like India, we cannot depend only on banks for debt.”

Capital markets play a crucial role in the economic development of a country by providing financial resources required for the long-term sustainable development of the economy.

“A big channel has been created in the capital market, which is investing household savings in the economy,” said Pandey.

Kanta informed that in the last three years, Rs 93 lakh crore has been raised from the market by combining equity and debt.
