Drools Pet Food Private Limited, a home-grown pet food company, said on Monday that it had bagged a financial investment from Nestle S.A, the parent company of Nestle India. This is likely the first such investment by Nestle SA. The company did not reveal the quantum of the investment.

Under this agreement, Nestle SA will acquire a minority stake in the unicorn. “Drools will continue to remain strategically and operationally independent, it added. Earlier, L Catterton — a leading global consumer-focused private equity firm—invested in Drools in June 2023 for a minority stake.

This also comes when Nestle India focuses on strengthening its pet food play in India.

Founded in 2010, Drools has scaled to become a key player in India’s pet food sector. Its products are distributed across over 40,000 retail outlets and exported to 22 countries. The company said it is positioning itself as a global pet food brand with Indian roots.

“This is a testament to the love and trust of millions of pet parents and to our unwavering commitment to quality. Backed by a strong focus on science-based nutrition, Drools continues to drive innovation and build meaningful engagement with the evolving demographic of Indian pet parents, positioning itself at the forefront of the country’s pet care industry,” said Fahim Sultan, Founder of Drools Pet Food Pvt. Ltd. “

It operates six state-of-the-art manufacturing units and an expansive 16-lakh sq. ft. warehousing footprint, supported by 3,400 employees. The company offers 650+ SKUs, including high-protein, prescription, and value-for-money diets, serving the full spectrum of pet nutrition needs. Drools is also a key player in the cat food category in India and a leading seller on e-commerce platforms, including Amazon.

L Catterton Partner and Head of India Anjana Sasidharan added, “Drools has achieved significant growth since we invested in the company two years ago, through the high-quality in-market agility and execution, and a range of operational initiatives we have been working on with its management team to create value. We are thrilled that Nestle, that has such a renowned position in the global pet care and consumer brands space, joins as a minority partner.”
