Bank Bakrid or Eid al-Adha Holiday Today, June 6: All public and private sector banks in Kerala will remain closed on Friday, June 6, 2025, in observance of Id-ul-Ad’ha (Bakrid), a major Islamic festival celebrated by the Muslim community across the country. 

As per the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar, banking services at branches in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram will remain suspended for the day.

What is Bakrid or Eid al-Adha?

Bakrid, or Eid al-Adha, is also called the Festival of Sacrifice. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. The festival date changes every year, based on the moon sighting, and is celebrated on different days in different states.

Bank Holiday June 2025: Where will banks be closed and when?

June 6, 2025 (Friday): Banks are declared a holiday in Kerala (Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram). The occasion is Bakrid.

June 7, 2025 (Saturday): Banks in several other states and union territories will observe the Bakrid holiday, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Jaipur, and Patna, among others.

June 8, 2025 (Sunday): Being a regular weekend holiday, banks will observe complete closure throughout the country. 

It would mark a 3-day-long weekend in most parts of the country with all banks being closed from June 6 to June 8.

Online banking and ATMs to operate normal

While private and public sector bank branches will remain shut, net banking, mobile banking, ATM withdrawals, and UPI transactions will continue to operate as usual. However, some offline services under the Negotiable Instruments Act, such as cheque clearance and promissory note transactions, may be temporarily halted during this period.

Bank holidays in June 2025

As per the RBI’s list, there are 12 bank holidays in June 2025, including:

Weekly offs on all Sundays and 2nd and 4th Saturdays

Festival-related closures such as Bakrid, Rath Yatra, and Saint Kabir Jayanti

Customers are advised to plan any essential in-person banking activities accordingly.
