Coronavirus Update: As India continue to monitor a slight uptick in COVID-19 cases, Haryana and Uttarakhand have reported fresh infections, prompting health authorities to reinforce preventive measures. Haryana reports 31 new cases, Gurugram and Faridabad most affected.
According to Haryana health officials, the state reported 31 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, with Gurugram and Faridabad accounting for the majority, PTI reported. Gurugram logged nine new infections while Faridabad reported 11. Other cases were reported from Karnal (3), Jhajjar (3), Panipat (2), and one each from Yamunanagar, Hisar, and Panchkula.
The total number of active COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 87. Of these, only two patients are currently hospitalised, while the rest are under home isolation.
Haryana Health Minister Arti Singh Rao urged the public and healthcare personnel to remain alert but reassured citizens that there was no cause for panic. “The health and safety of every citizen is our top priority. Timely action and strict adherence to preventive measures can significantly curb the spread of the virus,” she said.
Uttarakhand sees 7 new cases in Dehradun
In neighbouring Uttarakhand, Dehradun reported seven new COVID-19 cases on Friday, raising the district’s active tally to 29. According to officials, three patients each were from Rishikesh and the Raipur region, while one was from Sahaspur. The state health department is currently tracing contacts of the newly infected individuals.
Centre holds national COVID review with states, UTs
The fresh cases come in the backdrop of a nationwide technical review held earlier this week under the chairpersonship of Dr Sunita Sharma, Director General of Health Services (DGHS). Officials from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), ICMR, and all States and UTs participated to assess preparedness and the COVID-19 situation.
According to an ANI report, as of 8 am on June 7, India had 5,364 active COVID-19 cases. Most of these are reportedly mild and being managed through home care. Since January 1 this year, 55 deaths linked to COVID-19 have been reported across the country, primarily among individuals with comorbidities.
Mock drills and oxygen readiness underway
The Centre has directed states to ensure adequate availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators, and essential medicines. A nationwide mock drill was also conducted on June 2 to test the efficiency of oxygen supply systems, including PSA plants and LMO tanks.

Meanwhile, in a significant scientific breakthrough, researchers at IIT Guwahati have developed a new method to detect and measure the presence of SARS-CoV-2—the virus responsible for COVID-19.
The approach is based on a clay-virus-electrolyte sedimentation process. The study has been published in the peer-reviewed journal Applied Clay Science, co-authored by Prof. T V Bharat and Prof. Sachin Kumar along with their research team.
