8th Pay Commission revised pay projections for IAS, IPS, IFS officers: After the central government announced the 8th Pay Commission in January this year, its employees are excited about it. They are expecting a sizeable salary hike from the pay commission. The same is the case with civil servants such as IAS, IPS, IFS, and IRS officers, who are the backbone of the country’s administration and other key policy decisions. As the pay hike for the 8th CPC is most likely to be on the basis of the fitment factor, know what the estimated salary hike will be for IAS, IPS, and other civil servants at 2, 2.25, and 2.50 fitment factors.
Civil services in India
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts Civil Service Examination (CSE) to select civil servants for 24 different services.
The most popular of these services are Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Foreign Services (IFS), Indian Police Services (IPS), and Indian Revenue Services (IRS).
Services below them but in Group A are Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS), Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS), Indian Corporate Law Service (ICLS), Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES), Indian Information Service (IIS), and Indian Postal Service (IPoS).
After these services, there are Group B services, applicants for which are also selected through the common CSE exam.
Civil servants are considered policymakers in India, as they hold top posts in different government departments.
The top post for a government servant in India is Cabinet Secretary.
The Cabinet Secretary consults the Prime Minister on a daily basis on important policy decisions.

Fitment factor for 8th CPC
Since the 8th Pay Commission is yet to be formed, the fitment factor will be known once its report is approved by the Cabinet. However, experts and employee unions in government departments have come up with many suggestions for the fitment factor. Most estimates are in the range of 1.92-2.86. A fitment factor is a multiplier for salary and pension revision.
