British Airways clarified it was not an emergency landing but a precautionary return.

A Chennai-bound British Airways Boeing 787 aircraft returned to London owing to a technical issue.

The aircraft took for Chennai at around 1.16 pm on Sunday and returned to London Heathrow airport after an hour, dumping fuel in order to reduce its landing weight.

British Airways said the aircraft did not make an emergency landing.

In a statement, the airline said the aircraft returned to Heathrow as a standard precaution after reports of a technical issue. “The flight landed safely with crew and customers disembarking as they normally would, and our teams are working hard to get their journeys back on track as soon as possible,” the airline said.
