The Kerala government has declared a three-day State mourning in honour of His Holiness Pope Francis.

The government has cancelled official “entertainments” on April 22 and April 23. The State will observe a one-day mourning on the day of Pope Francis’ funeral, which the Vatican is yet to announce.

The government has instructed the District Collectors to fly the national flag at half-mast on the days of State mourning.

The decision follows the Union Ministry of Home Affairs’ letter to State governments late Tuesday, declaring a period of national mourning.
