In the aftermath of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi on Friday directed senior officials to intensify monitoring of anti-social elements and take firm action against any attempts to disrupt public order or social harmony.
Chairing a video conference with all Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police across the State, Mr. Rastogi underscored the importance of maintaining law and order, particularly in view of the prevailing security situation.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sumita Misra, who also addressed the meeting, issued a set of directives aimed at enhancing the security framework. District administrations were asked to step up patrolling, strengthen local intelligence networks, and maintain heightened surveillance in sensitive areas. Instructions were also issued to ensure the safety and well-being of Kashmiri students enrolled in educational institutions across Haryana.
Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur directed district police chiefs to identify and monitor vulnerable locations. He emphasised the importance of reactivating district-level peace committees to promote dialogue and maintain communal harmony. “These committees are vital for fostering inter-community understanding and can serve as a platform to de-escalate tensions during sensitive situations,” he said.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, speaking in Karnal, condemned the attack and said the country stands united against terrorism. He called for a thorough probe into the incident, including lapses in the security and intelligence apparatus. “We welcome the steps taken by the government against Pakistan and demand stronger action. The families of the victims will only get justice when the perpetrators and their handlers are brought to book,” he said.
