Karni Sena activists attacked the convoy of Samajwadi Party (SP) Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Lal Suman on Sunday (April 27, 2025) in Aligarh district. Police filed a case and suspended two officials following the violence.
Locals said miscreants waiting for the convoy threw tyres at it following which a car swerved and hit another vehicle. For weeks, the Karni Sena and other Rajput groups have been protesting against Mr. Suman following his remarks on 16th century Rajput king Rana Sanga. The groups have demanded an apology from the MP.

“In connection with some people throwing tyres on the convoy of MP Ramji Lal Suman, a case has been registered at the police station in Gabhana. The accused will be arrested soon. For laxity in the case, the beat constable and the local outpost in-charge have been suspended with immediate effect and departmental action has been initiated against the SHO,” said Mrigank Shekhar Pathak, Superintendent of Police (City) Aligarh. He said no one was injured in the incident and the convoy had a safe passage.

SP president Akhilesh Yadav termed the incident a “deadly criminal act” and hit out at the State government.
“The deadly attack on Ramji Lal Suman by throwing tyres and stones on his convoy has led to an accident which could have turned into a fatal one. This is a criminal act. Collecting so many tyres together is itself proof of a deep conspiracy. This is once again a deep lapse of intelligence or deliberate negligence. If the government and administration are trying to act ignorant despite knowing all this, then they should know that anarchy spares no one, one day BJP and their allies will also fall prey to such violent elements. Is there anyone in the country to take cognizance of the deadly attack on an MP or will the government of the supremacists go underground by maintaining a shameful silence because he is a ‘PDA MP’,” wrote Mr. Yadav on X.
“Now, has the bulldozer lost its power or has the U.P. government surrendered to anarchy or is all this happening with the consent of the UP government” he added.
On March 21, Mr. Suman had said in Parliament, “Indian Muslims do not consider Babur their idol. They follow Prophet Muhammad and the Sufi tradition. But I want to ask, who brought Babur. It was Rana Sanga who invited Babur to defeat Ibrahim Lodi. So, if Muslims are called the descendants of Babur, then you (hinting at the other side) must be the descendants of traitor Rana Sanga.”
The statement led to protests by Karni Sena members outside the leader’s Agra residence on March 27.
