Ramakrishna Rao holds record of preparing maximum budgets as Finance Secretary


Finance department Special Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao is all set to take charge as the new Chief Secretary of Telangana on April 30 evening.

The 1991-batch officer has worked in various capacities in the united Andhra Pradesh State and was made the Finance Secretary after the formation of separate Telangana. He continued in the post for over a decade now preparing 14 budgets, 12 full budgets and two vote on account budgets during his long stint as Principal Secretary and Special Chief Secretary of Finance.

Reposing its confidence in his ability to manage finances in tough times, the State government has decided to continue him as in-charge of finance affairs giving him full additional charge as Finance Special Chief Secretary until further orders. Though Mr. Ramakrishna Rao’s name was tipped for the top post after former Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar’s resignation from the post, then Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao picked up outgoing Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari for the post without disturbing the former from Finance portfolio.

Mr. Ramakrishna Rao spent his initial years in the administrative services in a various capacities and a majority of his initial years were in Telangana districts like Adilabad, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda and Nizamabad in the erstwhile united A.P. As a head of the department, he worked as Commissioner, school education before going to the United States to pursue MBA. He was posted as in-charge of State Reorganisation Affairs in the General Administration Department on his return in 2013, a post he has handled deftly in defending the Telangana’s share in the division of assets and liabilities between the two Telugu States.

He was also Planning Secretary when the previous BRS government introduced certain key programmes during its first tenure guiding the departments concerned on their effective implementation.
