A.P. government’s help sought to run JIPMER’s Super Speciality Centre in Yanam

Authorities from the Jawahar Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, and former Yanam MLA Malladi Krishna Rao met Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav on Wednesday, seeking the Andhra Pradesh government’s cooperation in providing services to people through the Super Speciality Centre, located in Yanam.

According to a release issued by the Health Department, Mr. Krishna Rao, who was also former Puducherry Health Minister, told Mr. Satya Kumar Yadav that while Yanam has a population of around 80,000, the 100-bed Super Speciality Centre, run by JIPMER, sees a large number of people from Andhra Pradesh and that they would need the government’s help in recruiting the staff at the hospital.

Giving details about the number of doctors, nurses, para-technical staff required to run the centre, JIPMER Director Vir Singh Negi said 75% of the centre’s patients come from the neighbouring districts of A.P.

He requested Mr. Satya Kumar Yadav to appoint doctors and nurses on deputation in various departments at the hospital. Dr. Vir Singh Negi requested that Senior Resident Doctors and PG students under the District Residency Programme be posted at the hospital in Yanam.

The Director said the Puducherry government would provide them with deputation allowances and salaries, and take care of their accommodation. In return for their services, the PG doctors and Senior Resident Doctors would also be given training in various departments at JIPMER, which would benefit their career, Dr. Vir Singh Negi told Mr. Satya Kumar Yadav.

Mr. Satya Kumar Yadav responded positively. Special Chief Secretary (Health) M.T. Krishna Babu and other officials were present in the meeting.
