Air India Boeing 787 Crash News, Ahmedabad Flight Crash Update: The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), an American government agency that probes civil aviation accidents, said on Thursday that it willl be leading a team to India to assist in the investigation of a tragic Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad. The development came hours after the Air India flight with 242 onboard crashed moments after takeoff. The flight, AI171, was headed to London (Gatwick) from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
The NTSB is an independent US government agency mainly responsible for probing transportation accidents and for making safety recommendations to prevent future mishaps.

The FAA said it is in contact with the NTSB regarding the Air India flight AI171 accident and was ready to provide technical assistance in the Indian investigation..
“When an international incident occurs, that government leads the investigation. In the event assistance is requested, the NTSB is the official US representative and the FAA provides technical support,” said the FAA in a brief statement.
“We stand ready to launch a team immediately in coordination with the NTSB,” noted the FAA.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s national civil aviation regulator, initiated an investigation into the crash that took place moments after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
