Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of politicising the Pahalgam attack and lacking genuine empathy for victims. Mr. Yadav alleged that the BJP published a childish advertisement on the extremely painful tragedy, adding, even if that party removed this advertisement, even its staunch supporters would not forgive this sin. The BJP always looked for opportunities for its power and politics in disasters, he wrote on X.
The SP president is believed to be hinting at a reported poster by the BJP Chhattisgarh unit reading “Dharm poocha, jati nahi…..yaad rakhenge” (they asked about religion not caste, will remember). The poster is presently not available online.

Mr. Yadav said the BJP could not shirk its responsibility for the death of such a large number of people. “It is the failure of the Central government that it could not know in advance that the enemies of the country were going to carry out such a gruesome incident. This is not the first time this has happened. If the BJP government had learnt a lesson from the previous attacks, then it would have been alert and such attacks could have been prevented. Lives of people could have been saved,” he added.
The SP leader called the Pahalgam incident extremely disturbing, asking the BJP to not make security of India only a slogan. “It is a request to the insensitive BJP members that after understanding the pain of the families who have lost their loved ones, at least the security of the country should not be made a mere slogan. This is a time of immense sorrow, the BJP should not commit the misdeed of denying it with ostentatious meetings and false sentiments. In this hour of grief, our heartfelt condolences are with the families who have lost their loved ones,” said Mr. Yadav.
