Bakrid Bank Holiday: Banks in several parts of India will remain closed today, Saturday, June 7, on the occasion of Bakrid or Eid al-Adha. While banks are typically open on the first and third Saturdays of every month, this time some regions will see a bank holiday due to the festival. According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) official calendar, June 7 falls on the first Saturday of the month and will be a working day in areas where Bakrid is not a designated holiday.

Eid al-Adha, also known as Bakrid, is one of the most important Islamic festivals celebrated across the world. In 2025, the festival is being observed on June 7 in India. The festival marks the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command and is observed on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

Here’s a region-wise list of where banks are shut and open today.

Banks will remain closed today in the following cities

Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad (both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), Imphal, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar and Thiruvananthapuram.

Ahmedabad, Gangtok and Itanagar.

Since bank holidays are declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act by the RBI and vary by region, customers are advised to confirm with their local branch before visiting.

What days are banks usually closed?

Banks in India remain shut on all Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays, and on national, religious or regional holidays. However, on the first and third Saturdays, banks typically operate as usual.

Upcoming bank holidays in June 2025

Aside from today’s Bakrid holiday, banks will also remain closed on these dates in specific states.

June 11 — Sant Guru Kabir Jayanti and Saga Dawa. Banks will be closed in Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh.
June 27 — Ratha Yatra and Kang (Rathajatra). Banks will be closed in Odisha and Manipur.
June 30 — Remna Ni. Banks will be closed in Mizoram.
