Over a dozen Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in Delhi were detained by the police in separate operations on Sunday as part of an ongoing crackdown against illegal migration into India.
About 30 others were identified who infiltrated into the country and were staying illegally in Delhi. The detainees, who were found to be residing in Delhi without valid documents, have been handed to concerned authorities to be deported back to Bangladesh, officials said.
At least six Bangladeshi infiltrators, all women, identified as Mim Akhtar (23), Meena Begum (35), Sheikh Munni (36), Payal Sheikh (25), Sonia Akhtar (36), and Taniya Khan (34), were detained in Delhi’s Mandavali area.
The women were detained and interrogated, which helped authorities track down and arrest five others from central Delhi’s Paharganj area. All of them have been handed over to the Foreigners’ Regional Registration Office (FRRO), which has initiated their deportation process.
In another operation, the Delhi Police arrested four Bangladeshi citizens who infiltrated into India via the Bengal border and reached the national capital by train. They were arrested in Delhi’s Azadpur Sabzi Mandi.
According to the police, they were living in Delhi disguised as transgender people. They had undergone minor surgeries and hormonal treatments to alter their appearances and evade detection. The four infiltrators are aged between 21 and 40 years.
According to police, the four were in touch with their families using the IMO mobile app, which was banned in India for security reasons.
In South Delhi district, police arrested six people including a mastermind and, with their help, identified 30 others hiding in Chennai. Appropriate action has been initiated against them.
After infiltrating into India, the Bangladeshi nationals obtained fake Aadhaar cards. Following that, they managed to get accommodation and small-scale jobs, and continued living in India.
All of them have been handed over to the FRRO for deportation.
