Members of various Lingayat and Veerashaiva organisations joined hands together to celebrate Basava Jayanti in Belagavi on Sunday.

A bike rally was taken out as part of Basava Jayanti celebrations on Sunday. A public function will be held on Wednesday, while a rally will be taken around the city on May 4.

Leaders inaugurated the event by garlanding the statue of Sri Basaveshwara in Goaves and hoisted the Shatsthala flag. Young men and women took out a bike rally from the Basaveshwara Circle to Mahant Bhavan. Lingaraj Jagajampi and others led the bike rally.

Sri Gurusiddha Mahaswamiji of Karanji Math and Allama Prabhu Mahaswamiji of Naganur Rudrakshi Math were present.

Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar, MLA Abhay Patil, the former Rajya Sabha member Prabhakar Kore, the former MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimath and leaders Ratnaprabha Bellada and Basavaraj Rotti and others were present.

Members of Jagatika Lingayat Mahasabha, Akhil Bharatiya Veerashaiva Mahasabha, Rashtriya Basava Dal and other associations were present.

Later, leaders attended a function to rename the flyover near the Railway Station as Vishwaguru Jagajyoti Basaveshwara Railway Flyover.

Mr. Jagadish Shettar, Mr. Abhay Patil, Belagavi City Corporation members Rajshekar Doni and Hanumant Kongali and others were present.
