Projectors, smart monitors and television maker BenQ has said that it will enter the sub-₹30,000 projector market by the end of this year, to make them more affordable for the home consumers.

The company that had more products in business-to-business (B2B) segment “pre-Covid”, also said that it will launch more products for direct to consumer (B2C) in the coming months, and with such products in mind, it is aiming for a turnover of ₹1,000 crore in the current financial year, up from ₹750 crore last year, and gradually going up to ₹2,000 crore in 2028.

“We are looking to launch a portable projector in the more affordable segment, something sub ₹30,000. Right now we start at ₹50,000. We are looking to launch it by end of the year,” Rajeev Singh, Managing Director, BenQ India, told businessline.

Having said that Singh also pointed out that BenQ is not looking at sub ₹10,000 projectors or small portable projectors as the company does not want to compromise on quality.

On the total size of the market for home projectors, Sing said the total market size of 4K-home projectors is around 10,000 units per year and similarly, the portable projector market is also close to 10,000 units per year.

“Of course the value is very different because the 4K projector typically costs around ₹2.50 lakh or beyond and portable projectors start at ₹50,000-60,000 per unit. But, both markets are growing at a rate of more than 25-30 per cent per year. So we expect that in the next three years, both the markets should double,” he said.

The company is the market leader with 45 per cent market share in the projectors business and expects to grow that too.

Speaking recently on the sidelines of Computex held in Taiwan, Singh also said that BenQ will increase the sales of interactive flat panels as there is more demand coming from various States for smart-classrooms – both in private and government schools.

“We are the number one smart education company in India. We have our solutions working in more than 3.5 lakh classrooms in India as of now. India is a big market for education and we have more than one-crore classrooms in India. Out of these one-crore classrooms, close to six-lakh classrooms have a smart solution deployed and out of that we have 3.5-lakh classrooms. So we have more than 50 per cent share of the overall installed smart classes,” Singh added.
