A boy, identified as M. Manikanta (7), died after he accidentally fell into a drain and was washed away, at Y.S.R. Colony in the Machavaram area on Sunday (May 4, 2025).
Due to heavy rains in Vijayawada and neighbouring areas, many roads were inundated and low-lying areas submerged. The boy reportedly fell in an overflowing drain. Local residents and the boy’s mother noticed Manikanta in the drain and shifted him to hospital, where the doctors declared him as “brought dead.”
Speaking to The Hindu, Machavaram Circle Inspector Ch. Prakash said, “Due to heavy rains, drainages are overflowing in the area, and the boy may have accidentally slipped into the drain.” The residents said uncovered drainages were causing hardship in the Gunadala area.
