The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has criticised the State government for neglecting about 6 lakh degree students, those pursuing undergraduate courses, by not releasing the ₹800 crore dues of the fee reimbursement scheme.
In a statement, senior leader of the party T. Harish Rao said here on Sunday that the delay in release of fee reimbursement dues was delaying the conduct of degree exams and as a result the students were unable to appear for other professional courses’ admission exams such as PGCET and LAWCET.
The degree exams in colleges affiliated to Kakatiya, Satavahana, Mahatma Gandhi and Palamuru Universities for the academic year 2024-25 were not conducted so far as private colleges refused to hold the exams due to non-release of fee reimbursement dues.
Mr. Harish Rao said the BRS government led by K. Chandrasekhar Rao had continued the fee reimbursement scheme introduced by the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy government in the combined Andhra Pradesh. On an average of ₹2,000 crore a year, the then BRS government had released ₹19,000 crore in its nine-and-a-half years rule, he claimed.
However, the Revanth Reddy government had not released even a rupee during the last 17 months. The fate of ₹5 lakh Vidya Bharosa cards promised before the elections remains unknown.
