Burglars decamp with around 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery, cash and silver objects


Burglars decamped with around 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery, silver objects and ₹2 lakh in cash from the house of a wholesale spare parts dealer at Salvanpet on Saturday.

Police said that H. Babu Sahib, 72, and his wife Jilan Begam, 68, have been residing in at Salvanpet, which falls under the Vellore Corporation, with their brothers and their families for many years. Sahib runs a wholesale business outlet on the Old Bangalore Road opposite the fort.

A few days ago, he left for Bengaluru along with his family and relatives.Upon returning, he found the main door of the house damaged and cupboards and almirah broken. Valuables, including cash, gold jewellery and silver objects, were missing.

Closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs), installed at the veranda of the house, were found to be damaged and the footage was missing.

The Vellore North police rushed to the spot. Fingerprints sample, and footage – taken from CCTVs along the route to the house – were collected. SP N. Mathivanan has formed special teams to nab the culprits. A case has been registered.
