A 58-year-old businessman was killed and his wife injured when a speeding canter crashed into the car they were travelling in near Sadarahalli signal on Wednesday morning.
The deceased M.N. Kumar Babu, a resident of Jakkur, was heading to Devanahalli with his family for a pooja for a newly-bought property. His was sitting in the backseat of the car along with his wife Varalakshmi while his son was in front.
The car had stopped at the signal waiting for it to turn green, when a speeding goods vehicle lost control and crashed into it. The vehicle further crashed into six others vehicles before coming to a stop.
The other occupants of the vehicle escaped with minor injuries while Kumar Babu sustained severe injuries. The couple was rushed to the hospital where Kumar was declared dead. Varalakshmi is under treatment and is said to be out of danger.
The canter driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped. Traffic was disrupted on the busy road for sometime.
The Chikkajala traffic police rushed to the spot and cleared the traffic and seized the canter. A case of hit and run has been registered against the driver and investigations are on to track him down.
