Chalavadi offers to take political retirement if Congress proves Savarkar’s role in Ambedkar’s electoral defeat

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy on Sunday challenged senior Congress leaders that he would tender his resignation and also take political retirement if they can prove their allegations that it was not the Congress, but Veer Savarkar and Communist leader Shripad Amrit Dange who were responsible for the defeat of B.R. Ambedkar in the Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru, Mr. Narayanaswamy alleged that the Congress leaders – AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, RDPR Minister Priyank Kharge and senior leader Jairam Ramesh – were claiming that the Congress had no role in the electoral defeat of Ambedkar. They had also maintained that it was Savarkar and Dange who were responsible, he said.

Terming these statements as “false,” Mr. Narayanaswamy challenged them to prove their claims. He offered to provide a cash prize of ₹1,00,001 if they proved their claims. “Otherwise, are these people ready to quit their posts?…,” he wondered. He accused the Congress of insulting Ambedkar during his lifetime.

He accused the Congress government of delaying the process of providing internal reservation to Scheduled Castes. Though a survey in this regard is set to commence on Monday, Mr. Narayanaswamy said he was skeptical about the Congress government implementing internal reservation.
