‘China using Pakistan as a proxy, can’t be trusted’: British expert advises Trump, West to back India

British political commentator and author David Vance has come out strongly in support of India’s Operation Sindoor, while sharply criticising China and Turkey for backing Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.

In an interview with ANI, Vance accused Beijing of treating Pakistan as a “proxy” and warned the West against trusting China. “China operates Pakistan as a proxy in the region. So, China cannot be trusted in any regard,” he said.

‘Trump should support India over Pak’

Vance said US President Donald Trump, and the West in general, must recognise India’s strategic value in countering China’s influence. “It would be far better if Donald Trump understood that by supporting India, India is a bulwark for the West against China… The more we can help India against Pakistan, the better,” he added.

David Vance also didn’t mince words when it came to Turkey. He described Ankara as “problematic” and criticised Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for siding with Pakistan. “I think Turkey is a very problematical state… I see Erdogan as very much linked to China,” Vance said, adding that Turkey’s anti-India rhetoric is expected and should be dismissed.

Operation Sindoor ‘long overdue’

He voiced strong support for India’s Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir last month that left 26 civilians dead. Vance called India’s precision strikes across the border a necessary move.

“I think the operation was long overdue. It needed to happen. It was a lot more than just the conflict with Pakistan—India was striking a blow for civilisation,” he said.

On May 7, India carried out high-precision strikes targeting terrorist launch pads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). Over 100 terrorists were reportedly killed. India also responded effectively to Pakistani military aggression by pounding key airbases.

Recalling his remarks at the United Nations in 2018, Vance reiterated his earlier position: “Pakistan is a failed state, a terrorist state, a terrorist incubator. And so it was good that India moved against it.”
