To prevent thefts and housebreaks, and ensure foolproof community safety, the Chittoor district police have installed 3,000 CCTV cameras and distributed 16,500 smart door locks across the district. Additionally, the department has launched a series of awareness campaigns to educate people on home security.

Superintendent of Police V.N. Manikanta Chandolu emphasised that the safety of people and their property is the police department’s top priority. He said: “Increased urbanisation, and a well-connected transport network have led to a rise in crimes. Therefore, the department is empowering residents to secure their homes combining technology — security gadgets and solutions with citizen engagement.”

Police teams led by Deputy SPs, Circle-Inspectors, and Sub-Inspectors, are conducting demonstrations on the installation and operation of smart door locks. The locks — weatherproof and tamper-resistant, work as an early warning system, triggering instant alerts during housebreaking attempts.

Another standout initiative is the Locked Houses Monitoring System (LHMS) — a dedicated drive to protect homes left unattended during summer vacations. People can register their locked homes through their local police stations or via the official mobile app LHMS by the AP police. The SP said: “Registered houses will receive additional monitoring by patrol units, and any suspicious activity will lead to immediate police action.“
