Class VII student drowns in a pond near Ranipet

A Class VII student drowned in a pond at Amarapuram village near Walajah town on Sunday while taking bath.

Police identified the deceased as S. Kannan, 13. He was a student at Government High Secondary School in Walajah. Kannan, who lost his parents in his childhood, was brought up by his relative V. Kuppan, 45, and his wife K. Kavitha, 41.

As the couple was busy with farm work, Kannan left home to meet his friend in the village without informing them. After some time, Kavitha returned home but did not find Kannan there.

After a long wait, she and her neighbours searched for him in the village. They found Kannan’s dress near the pond. Immediately, they alerted fire fighters and Avalur police, who rushed to the spot and retrieved the body.
