CMF Phone 2 Pro Review: A stylish mid-range upgrade with big display, solid battery but…

CMF Phone 2 Pro Review: Last month, Nothing’s sub-brand CMF launched its second smartphone — the CMF Phone 2 Pro — in India. This new mid-range model features an upgraded processor, better display, and camera — compared to its predecessor. But is it the best phone available in this price segment? Read on to learn more about it.

CMF Phone 2 Pro Review: Price, Colours, Variants

The smartphone is available in two variants: 8+128 GB and 8+256 GB, priced at Rs 17,999 and Rs 19,999, respectively. The CMF Phone 2 Pro comes in four colours: White, Black, Orange and Light Green. We used the 8GB + 256GB variant of the device in the Light Green shade.

CMF Phone 2 Pro Review: Design

The CMF Phone 2 Pro feels handy and compact. The back panel is made of plastic, though it does feature a frosted glass-like texture. The frame has a metallic finish, giving it a premium look. Weighing 185 grams and measuring just 7.8mm thick, the Phone 2 is 5 per cent thinner than its predecessor. Although it has visible screws on the back, just like the Phone 1, it lacks the feature that enabled users to switch to a new cover on their own—the way they could on the previous device.

On the right side, the phone houses the power button and the ‘essential key’ (read more on this below), while the volume rockers are located on the left. At the bottom, you’ll find the hybrid dual SIM slot, primary microphone, USB Type-C port, and speaker grille. The secondary microphone is positioned at the top.

The device comes with an IP54 rating, which indicates decent resistance to dust and mild water splashes. While competitors like Realme P3 5G and Oppo K13 5G come with ratings of IP65 or higher, the Phone 2’s rating is still two notches above the previous model’s IP52.

CMF Phone 2 Pro Review: Battery

The CMF Phone 2 Pro is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and comes with a 33W charging adapter. It took us about 1 hour and 10 minutes to charge the device from 0 to 80 per cent. However, this speed is slower than its rival, Oppo K13, which claims to take only 1 hour to charge fully.

Practically, if you use the device vigorously, involving a mix of activities ranging from browsing social media to watching content to making calls or clicking photos, the battery of the device is capable of lasting for around 10-11 hours comfortably, we found.

CMF Phone 2 Pro Review: Display

The CMF Phone 2 Pro boasts a 6.77-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display, making it the largest display to date in the CMF lineup. We found that the peak brightness of 3,000 nits—which is 50 per cent higher than that of CMF Phone 1—performs well in real-world usage. The vibrant colours and deep blacks of the AMOLED display made the content look rich and detailed. We watched content using popular apps like YouTube and Netflix on the device, and the experience was quite good. However, the bezels are big on the display, compared to competitors like the iQOO Z10.

CMF Phone 2 Pro Review: Camera

The CMF Phone 2 Pro boasts a triple-camera system, featuring a 50MP main sensor. For selfies, it offers a 16MP front-facing sensor. Photos taken in daylight are good, with good dynamic range and natural-looking colours. The ultra-wide camera delivers good results, but low-light performance is average. The auto night mode helps reduce noise effectively.

CMF Phone 2 Pro Review: What is Essential Key?

The phone features an Essential Key on the right side, similar to the one found on the Nothing Phone (3a) series, offering quick access to Essential Space. Wondering what Essential Space is? Well, it is an AI-powered hub designed to help users capture, organise, and recall notes and ideas with ease.

A single press of the Essential Key captures and sends content to Essential Space, a long press records a voice note, and a double tap opens all your saved content.

CMF Phone 2 Pro Review: Performance and Software

The CMF Phone 2 Pro comes with a newly upgraded MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro 5G processor packs an 8-core CPU that clocks in speeds of up to 2.5 GHz. It runs Android 15 out of the box, with Nothing OS 3.2 on top. During testing, the device did not show any lag while multitasking or using multiple apps in the background. Also, it handles heat very well. The device offers a decent light gaming experience, but pro gamers, there are better options out there!

The company promises three years of Android updates and six years of security patches in addition to corrective and functionality updates.

CMF Phone 2 Pro Review: Things That We Feel Could Have Been Better

To sum up, here are a few things that we feel could have been better:

  • Low-light photography needs enhancement
  • Bezels need to be reduced for a better experience
  • Phone 2 Pro offers an IP54 rating, while competitors offer IP65 or higher ratings

CMF Phone 2 Pro Verdict

Overall, the CMF Phone 2 Pro seems to be an interesting option in this price segment. Although the back panel is not interchangeable like the CMF Phone 1, the handset still brings a unique design language. The camera performance is good, the charging speed is decent, there is no problem of overheating, and the UI experience is also good.
