The coronavirus cases have been increasing in the country. Some states have also reported Covid-related death cases. On Saturday, a 55-year-old woman in Noida tested positive for Covid-19. This is the first case in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida.
Active cases in India
According to the current data on the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare official website, there are 1,010 active cases (as of May 26, 2025, at 8 AM IST) in India.
Covid patient dies in Rajasthan, case tally rises to 23
A 26-year-old man from Jaipur, Rajasthan succumbed to the virus. The patient, who had been undergoing treatment for tuberculosis and other ailments for the past two months, tested positive for Covid-19 on May 24 and died a day later, on May 25 (Sunday).
The Medical and Health Department confirmed the death on May 26 (Monday). On May 26, eight new Covid-19 cases were reported in Rajasthan: four from Jodhpur (including three from AIIMS and one from SNMC), three from Jaipur (from Rajasthan Hospital, B Lal Hospital, and EHCC), and one from RNT Medical College in Udaipur.
With these, the total number of infections in the state this year has risen to 23. The district-wise case distribution so far includes Jaipur (6), Jodhpur (4), Udaipur (4), Didwana (3), Ajmer (2), Bikaner (1), Phalodi (1), Sawai Madhopur (1), and Others (1). On Sunday, three new cases were reported. Health authorities emphasised that the current JN.1 variant, which evolved from Omicron BA.2.86, is not considered fatal.
In Maharashtra, a 21-year-old Covid-19 patient who was undergoing treatment at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Kalwa Hospital in Thane after testing positive died on May 25, Thane Municipal Corporation said.
In Karnataka, a patient died on Saturday (May 24), said the Health Department. It was the first Covid-related death in the state.
There were two deaths in Kerala and four deaths in Maharashtra.
Corona Cases in other states
As per the latest data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has 1,010 cases of Covid-19, with Kerala (430), Maharashtra (210), and Delhi (104) reporting the highest number of cases. Seven deaths have also been reported from Maharashtra (4), Kerala (2) and Karnataka (1).
Symptoms of JN.1 Covid variant
The JN.1 Covid variant exhibits symptoms that are comparable to those of previous strains, such as fever, sore throat, weariness, dry cough, and loss of taste or smell. Nonetheless, several reports—including one from Johns Hopkins—indicate that diarrhea and other gastrointestinal problems may be more common in JN.1. Other typical complaints include fatigue and congestion of the nose.
