A major fire broke out at a cotton godown attached to a mattress manufacturing unit in the old vegetable market area in Bidar on Thursday night, causing damage estimated at more than ₹30 lakh.
The mattress godown belongs to M.D. Ismail.
A huge quantity of cotton was stocked in the godown situated opposite his mattress shop. The fire broke out half-an-hour after the owner closed the shop for the day on Thursday.
The fire then began burning fiercely.
Fire and Emergency Services could not reach the spot on time and nearby shop owners and residents tried to douse the fire using water pipes from the neighboring well, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
The fire brigade vehicle reached the spot at 11 p.m. and took an hour to extinguish the fire.
Cotton bales, beds, two cotton cleaning machines and one motorbike were burnt to ashes in the fire accident.
