The Telangana government has got a shot in the arm with the Congress Working Committee (CWC) demanding that the Central Government adopt the Telangana model for the caste census in the general census.

The CWC meeting was held in New Delhi on Friday, and attended by Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, among others, unanimously passed a resolution praising the scientific way in which the BC caste survey was conducted, paving the way for any other government to follow the process, where all the stakeholders were consulted.

In its resolution, the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the highest decision-making body of the All India Congress Committee, said that the Telangana survey was conducted scientifically, based on suggestions from stakeholders such as BC caste associations, reputed academics, and intellectuals in society. The entire process was conducted transparently.

The CWC discussion on social justice seems to have revolved around the Telangana survey, going by the way senior leaders Jairam Ramesh, Sachin Pilot, Bhupesh Baghel and Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka praised the Telangana model at the press conference.

Mr. Ramesh took potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, raking up his famous statement of ‘Chappan Inch Chathi (56 inch chest)‘, comparing it with the 56 questions in the questionnaire prepared by the Telangana government for the BC caste survey. “The questionnaire with 56 questions is genuine, unlike the 56-inch chest.”

Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, Congress MP, said the young Chief Minister of Telangana Mr. Reddy showed the way to the nation. He demanded that a sub-committee of the Cabinet be constituted to prepare a similar questionnaire, taking all the stakeholders into confidence.

Later, in a post on ‘X’, the Chief Minister said that it was a matter of pride for the State of Telangana. “I am very proud that Telangana is a role model for the country in the process of starting a great social revolution. On this occasion, I once again congratulate everyone who conducted the caste census most brilliantly and transparently and brought glory to Telangana at the national level.”
