‘Ek hi sapna – Vishal Mega Mart Security Guard’: How India’s traditional retail giant’s hiring drive turned into meme gold

Vishal Mega Mart Security Guard Memes: What started as a straightforward job advertisement has spiralled into one of the funniest—and most relatable—online trends in recent times. Vishal Mega Mart’s call to hire thousands of security guards across its 645+ stores in India has inadvertently triggered a meme storm, flooding platforms like Instagram, X, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram.

From aspirational quotes to hilarious reels, the internet has crowned the role of “Vishal Mega Mart security guard” as the dream job of the season. Memes are now packed with mock interviews, fictional coaching centres, and viral catchphrases like “Ek hi sapna – Vishal Mega Mart security guard” and “First attempt fail, second attempt crack!”

Fictional entrance exams, Ronaldo in uniform, and a UPSC-level hype

The joke truly caught fire when social media users began fabricating “entrance exams” for the role. One viral post even claimed an actual test was held on April 1 (yes, April Fools’ Day), which reportedly included rounds on current affairs, English, the local language, medical tests, and physical training. Preference was supposedly given to candidates with martial arts or shooting experience.

“Only the top 1 per cent made it,” read one sarcastic post, comparing it to cracking UPSC. Soon, AI-generated images emerged showing Virat Kohli and Cristiano Ronaldo proudly donning the Vishal Mega Mart uniform. One caption quipped, “Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket because he got selected here.” Another imagined elite coaching classes prepping students for the role.

Salary’s real, reactions are reel gold

The numbers aren’t a joke though. The salary for a security guard at Vishal Mega Mart reportedly follows a tiered structure. Freshers can expect to earn between Rs 9,000 to Rs 12,000 a month. Those with experience may take home Rs 13,000 to Rs 18,000, while supervisory-level guards can earn anywhere between Rs 19,000 to Rs 25,000. Benefits reportedly include medical coverage, provident fund (PF), and staff discounts.

But while the salaries are serious, the internet’s reaction has been anything but. From memes to mock success stories, users across platforms have taken the trend and run with it.

“Vishal Mega Mart didn’t ask for virality. But meme marketing gave them free brand recall across India. Security guard job + 1 per cent selection + exam memes = Every Indian job seeker related,” one user wrote, summing up the phenomenon.

“Cracked the toughest exam in India. Vishal Mega Mart Security Guard Job Supremacy!” another joked. “Security guard batch no. 69 – Finally job lag gayi, guys!” read one post.

“Third attempt. Finally made it. Now the days of unemployment are over,” wrote another, poking fun at the country’s cutthroat job scene.

And in a ranking that only the internet could come up with, one viral list claimed:
Toughest exams in India:

  1. Vishal Mega Mart Security Guard Job
  2. UPSC
  3. JEE
  4. GATE
