Tension prevailed for some time when a fire broke out in an open area near Tallayapalem, located about 2-km from the venue where Prime Minister Narendra Modi relaunched the Amaravati capital construction works on Friday.

Personnel from the Fire and Police departments rushed to the spot even as thick smoke billowed from the area, creating panic among the villagers. Fire tenders were pressed into service to extinguish the flames.

“Plastic pipes dumped in the open place caught fire. The cause of fire is not known immediately. We will hand over the case to the police for thorough investigation,” said A.P. Fire Services Department Director General Madireddy Pratap.

A private company dumped the plastic pipes for the Amaravati capital works, said local residents.
