Five students were injured, two of them critically, after two groups clashed at a private coaching centre in Krishna district allegedly over a dispute regarding a cricket match.
A few days ago, a quarrel broke out between the two groups over deciding on a boundary hit by a junior student during a match. In the wee hours of Sunday, senior and junior students attacked each other with sticks and metal pipes in the hostel, according to sources.
The junior students alerted their parents, who took them home immediately. The institute management was not available for a comment.
Penamaluru Circle Inspector J.V. Ramana said nobody has lodged a complaint on the incident.
“I admitted my son to the coaching centre by paying ₹2.5 lakh a year as fee. But, there is no security. My son suffered critical injuries in the attack,” said a boy’s father, who came from Rayachoti in Annamayya district, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
Junior students alleged that senior students beat up about 15 students after switching off the lights in the dormitory and that the warden failed to stop the attack.
